ABOUT SITE Poodle Elthon Fiery Dance

Foreword

This site is about pedigree poodle, his relatives and ancestors – world and national champions. It’s thematically created site, and will be of breeders’ interest. Also, hope, that all people, who like dogs and animals, can enjoy with photos collection, animals wallpapers and pictures.

English and Russian versions.

Two versions of site are not equal. Reason is shortly explained on main English page. For English speaking people, site is just informative, mostly visually. As well, due to wide international pedigree of Elthon, expect breeders from his relatives’ kennels will find it interesting, to look on Russian poodle, who originally came and has grown from their kennels. (USA, Canada, Germany, Holland, Scandinavian countries).
Russian version also consists of text information about poodles, breed standards and history, questions and tips regarding dogs care. There’re a lot of such info in English net, so I considered it’s no reason to translate this part of site in English.
Web design part also will be helpful for Russian web owners. I just collected tips and recommendation concerning personal pages creation, meta-codes, html basics, etc. As well some tips and recommendations concerning site promotion – mostly in main Russian search engines (Yandex and Rambler), registering in Russian site catalogues.

Site best screen resolution and coding.

The site is designed for best view in Maxton, IE v6 and higher, also not bad in Opera. In Firefox pages're not compact enough.
Screen resolution is 1280 x 768. Why?
It’s very simple. Firstly, I have not absolutely PC/ Web education, even any kind of courses. I just read help section of the Front Page and other programs to create the site. On my computer, by default, screen resolution is 1280 x 768. And I had not ideas, that there’re some other requirements (for example, to not have horizontal scrolls on 800 x 600).
By the way, it is very strange requirement. They say, some people use computers with 800 x 600 resolution. Well. Some people use Windows v3.11, but Microsoft do not support service/ update for this version. May be we have to cancel their quality certificate? Also, General Motors do not support service and spares for jeep “Willis” (manufactured during WWII), but I know people in Russia, who use this car until now.
Moreover, on 12-th, February, 2007, I have checked some sites, and found, that they are not 800 x 600 adapted (they have horizontal scrolls on this resolution):

- BBC News http://www.bbc.co.uk/pressoffice/ , http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport
- Herald Tribune http://www.iht.com/

- The official web site of the British Monarchy http://www.royal.gov.uk/output/Page1.asp

- Microsoft Windows Home Page https://www.microsoft.com/windows/default.mspx
- The Official Microsoft ASP.NET 2.0 Site http://www.asp.net/
- Golden Web Awards http://www.goldenwebawards.com/
- International Webmasters Association - several pages, for example
   Certification - http://iwa-hwg.eclasses.org/cgibin/ql/pullout.cgi?template=cl/certification.htm&partner.login=IWA-HWG
   About Us - http://iwa-hwg.eclasses.org/cgi-bin/ql/pullout.cgi?template=cl/about.htm&partner.login=IWA-HWG
Enough?
So, my opinion is: we have to use highest technologies. And if some (by the way, a lot!) awards programs do not accept sites with horizontal scrolls on 800 x 600 resolution, it is their own (but not official) requirement. And if they reject my site, I will stay together with above listed sites, without their award. But again, my private opinion, it’s more reasonable to reduce site scoring for such non-compliance, but not apply completely disqualification.
Any way, reading different award criteria, I found a lot of good and useful info, how to improve site. And I did a lot, hope, site became better.

Graphics, animations, design.

Through the site, I tried to use my own graphics `and animations. But a few of them were taken from great free resources `sites: Free GIFs, Animations, Scripts, Backgrounds (www.fg-a.com) and Animation Station (http://www.animation-station.com), for which I thanks them very much.
Some award programs require the same background through over the site. I used another idea. As it is thematically created dog site, backgrounds were created according main idea – apricot poodle. And some colours were taken as a contrast, for example, apricot poodle on green grass, really beautiful!

Navigation.

Principles of navigation are different for Russian and English version. Russian one use usual, most common for Russian net system – several cross-links among pages, and ability to return back to the main page. For English version (thanks to award programs criteria), I use navigational links table in the bottom of pages. According feedbacks, people found my navigation convenient enough. Also, site map displays all pages (more then 80 for the moment), English language pages are indicated with green colour.

That’s all. Thank you for visiting my sit, hope you’ll find something interesting here…
